Definitions:

Griefing:
(1) Purposeful destruction of protected blocks, whether via exploit, glitch, hack, bug or normal. (Includes, but not limited to: wrenching blocks, breaking blocks, placing lava/water, setting fire, exploding TNT, abusive creep spawning/baiting, etc.);
(2) creation (placing blocks, growing trees, etc.) in protected areas / blocks;
(3) purposefully crashing the server;
(4) completely emptying a person's base (see: raiding);
(5) taking ME drives from the ME Drive block;
(5) breaking/stealing protected blocks that are not supposed to be broken. (for example: Strongboxes with Owner-Only settings are designed by their mod to only be opened/picked up by their Owner. Therefore, even though another mod might allow you to pick it up, that will be considered bypassing and griefing.

See http://minecraft.gamepedia.com/Griefing for more information.

Raiding:
Stealing from a base, killing the person there and taking their weapons so they aren't a threat (although its better to wait until they are offline), breaking a couple (read: 2) of wall blocks to get into the base (do not blow up a lot of TNT and say "I was only trying to get in"). Remember, breaking protected / claimed blocks will be considered griefing. You are only allowed to break unprotected blocks.

A good thief will take only some items, in order to not be noticed.  If raiding makes everyone ragequit, there will be nothing to steal and the community will die.  Be a conscientious thief.  Going unnoticed benefits the thief (and the community) in the long run because the player being raided will not know they were raided and will not up their security and you can come back later and take more items.  Taking less more often is preferred to taking everything at once. For you, and the player you're raiding.
